The Grand Canyon is a painter's paradise... every morning and every sunset the canyon looks different. This painting was inspired by an early morning out at Hopi Point. As the clouds moved slowly overhead, the first rays of dawn shot through the cloud layer and illuminated the canyon below in an ever-changing dance of color and light. I used thick, expressive strokes of oil paint to capture the strength and majesty of the vista. Claude Monet's water lily garden is synonymous with "impressionism" for many art lovers. Monet's water lily pond continues to inspire large-scale impressionist paintings to the present day. This painting, "Lilies Dreaming," was created by Open Impressionist Erin Hanson, who is carrying forward the tradition of the impressionists with a modern-day twist. In her paintings, she does not overlap her brushstrokes of oil paint; instead, she places her strokes side by side, getting each stroke "right the first time" and allowing the natural texture and movement of the oil paint to express itself in her works.

After visiting Monet's garden in Giverny last summer, I traveled south in search of the original water lily gardens that first inspired Monet and supplied him with his water lily plants. The Latour-Mariac water lily farm was incredible--there were thousands of varieties and colors of water lilies--in fact, this is where the original non-white, cold-hardy water lilies were bred. The colorful pastel hues of the new varieties became hugely popular across Europe, and Monet played a large part in popularizing their delicate blooms. To me, this painting of Latour-Mariac water lilies encapsulates the history of the water lily image in impressionism. NOTE: "Seranade of Blooms" will be on display at the Four Seasons hotel in Las Vegas until May 18th, 2025. You may purchase this original painting now, and we will ship it to you at the end of May.

After immersing myself in the beauty of Monet's Garden and seeing his original water lily paintings in several different art museums in France, I was inspired to create my own large-scale oil painting of water lilies. After seeing his garden in person, I realized that the squiggly lines in his pieces were reflections of weeping willow trees. This made me look at water reflections in a whole new light.

Experiencing Japan’s sakura season was a highlight of my spring travels. Kyoto’s weeping cherry trees, with their cascading pink blossoms, were breathtaking. I loved the variations in color and shape, each tree uniquely arching over pathways or framing tranquil ponds. This is the first painting I created after my recent inspirational trip to France to follow in the footsteps of the Impressionists. I started out in Paris, visiting many of the parks where the early impressionists and post-impressionists painted. Then I took a river boat along the Seine River, stopping in Giverny to see Monet's Garden and Rouen to see "Monet's" cathedral, and ending in Le Havre and Etretat. This painting of Etretat captures the stunning white limestone cliffs on the northern coast of Normandy, France. Monet was inspired to paint this same unique rock formation 140 years ago.

Moab is a popular destination for red rock landscape lovers across the world. Moab is at the entrance to Arches National Park and is also the gateway to accessing the Colorado River and Fisher Towers. Cherry blossoms in Oregon's Willamette Valley are an inspiration to me every spring. I wait eagerly for the trees to hit "full bloom," then I rush out with my camera to get inspiration shots. My favorite scene to paint is looking up into cherry blossom boughs with a bright blue sky behind. The delicate pink and white cherry blossoms are like little stars of beauty against the saturated blue backdrop.
