When hiking the West Rim Trail, the snow was coming down thickly, covering the desert floor with a fluffy white blanket. I love walking along the river bed in Zion Canyon. Red rock cliffs reach high into the sky around me, and all around me is silent except for the moving sound of water and the wind rustling through the cottonwood leaves. I walk in and out of shadow beneath the overhanging boughs, my mind completely at peace. This painting captures all my love for this landscape.

Arches National Park is one of my favorite national parks to paint. The view from the bridge in Zion, overlooking the river and the Watchman in the distance, is one of my favorite views to paint in Zion National Park. The turquoise waters seem to capture the very light from the darkening sky. I used thick, expressive brush strokes to capture the red rocks and mountains of Zion, laying my strokes side by side without overlapping.
