The Floral Show 2019

2019 marked Erin Hanson's entrance into motherhood, and when she was pregnant with her daughter Sierra, she painted The Floral Show to be released on Mother's Day, 2019. The collection focused on wildflowers and still life paintings (which Hanson had never specialized in before, but was the perfect subject to take up when several months pregnant...) Since then Hanson has discovered a love for painting sunflowers in vases, as well as irises, ranunculus, tulips, and peonies.

The Floral Show 2019
Torrey Pines golf course sits atop the beautiful coastal cliffs north of La Jolla. I was hiking along the beach one day and clambered up the steep cliffs to find myself right next to this golf course. The yellow wildflowers bloomed energetically along the outskirts of the green meadows, while the Torrey pine trees stretched overhead against a darkening sky. "Blooms at Dusk" was created on 1/8" linen board. The brushstrokes are loose and impressionistic, creating a mosaic of color and texture across the canvas. The piece arrives framed in a simple gold frame.

I can see why Van Gogh loved to paint wilted sunflowers... the drooping shapes and richer hues of orange make for very interesting compositions!
