The Path Collection
The Path was an iconic Erin Hanson painting that began a whole series of paintings now known as "The Path Collection." These paintings feature meandering pathways through overhanging trees and forests. These abstracted landscapes capture the feeling of being out-of-doors, surrounded by nature. They all have a sense of movement through the swirling, impressionistic brush strokes.

The Path Collection
Brilliant hues of refracted light glimmer in the coastal fog of Mendocino. The brush strokes are thick and impressionistic, capturing the beauty of the California cypress tree. Erin Hanson's unique approach to oil painting involved pre-mixing her entire palette from a limited selection of five pigments. She then places the brush strokes side by side without layering, creating a mosaic of color and texture across the canvas. This diptych is designed to hang unframed. The sides of the 1-1/2" canvases are painted wrap-around style, so that you can see the painting continue when viewed from the side. Please place the paintings 2" apart on the wall. This piece will be on display at Erin Hanson's solo museum show <i><a href="https://www.erinhanson.com/Event/AlchemistofColor" target="_blank">Erin Hanson: Alchemist of Color</i></a> at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum in Oxnard, California. You may purchase this painting now, but the piece will not be delivered until after the show ends on December 28th, 2023.

This painting captures a hiking trail through the aspen groves, sparkling coins of gold and orange everywhere around you. This painting was inspired by my recent trip to Kyoto, Japan, to see the famous maple trees changing color over Thanksgiving weekend. The Sogenchi Garden in Arashiyama Park was one of the most beautiful gardens I discovered. Each maple tree was infused with a different palette of color - ranging from brilliant yellow to golden orange to deep red. This painting captures the winding path through the Buddist garden. Inspired by a hike through southern Utah, this painting captures the low, overhanging branches of the gnarled cottonwoods. In early autumn, the cottonwoods had mostly dropped their leaves, and the red dirt path was covered in coin-shaped golden drops of color. The day had been drenched in rain, saturating all the colors and covering the canyon floor with a fresh bed of leaves. This painting was created over 24 karat gold leaf, applied directly to the canvas as an "underpainting." The thin sheets of genuine gold gleam with subtle light from between the brush strokes, catching the eye and making the painting seem to glow from within. Like all the <a href="https://www.erinhanson.com/Portfolio?col=24_Karat_Collection">24 Karat Collection</a> paintings, this piece was painted on 3/4" canvas and arrives framed in a classic gilded frame, ready to hang.
