Paintings of the East Coast

From Acadia National Park to the alpine regions of New Hampshire, and south along Blue Ridge Parkway to South Carolina, the landscapes of the east coast have inspired many landscape paintings by Erin Hanson. The White Mountains are one of Erin's favorite destinations to paint on the east coast. Trickling streams reflecting autumn color, softly rounded mountains reflecting the light of early dawn, and ever-changing seasons offer an abundant source of color combinations and landscapes to paint.

I was traveling west across Maine, from Acadia National Park to the White Mountains, when I came across Quill Hill. The mountain proclaimed to be the highest peak in the surrounding landscape, providing 360-degree views of the entire countryside. Of course this was an opportunity not to be missed, and 20 minutes later I was standing alone on a deserted mountain peak, trying to protect myself against a bitter winter wind, and unable to take my eyes from the stunning vista. This painting captures the beauty I saw on Quill Hill. This painting was done on 1-1/2" canvas, with the painting continued around the edges.
