I was traveling west across Maine, from Acadia National Park to the White Mountains, when I came across Quill Hill. The mountain proclaimed to be the highest peak in the surrounding landscape, providing 360-degree views of the entire countryside. Of course this was an opportunity not to be missed, and 20 minutes later I was standing alone on a deserted mountain peak, trying to protect myself against a bitter winter wind, and unable to take my eyes from the stunning vista. This painting was inspired by a leaf peeping trip I took in New England last autumn. The landscape around the White Mountains was my favorite - this painting captures a stream glimmering in the early morning light. I love how the distant mountains peaks appear blue and green peeking between the trees. This painting was created on 1-1/2" canvas, with the painting continued around the edges. Driving to the top of Quill Hill, in Rangeley, Maine, gave me a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and rolling landscape.
