Dusky hues of purple and turquoise glow on this canvas of Mendocino, California. The textured spaces between the branches of the cypress tree create a sense of motion in the scene. Each brightly colored brush stroke glimmers with light against the dark underpainting.

"Cypress Pines" was created on gallery-depth canvas, in a modern impressionist style known as Open Impressionism. The brush strokes are loose and painterly, created with thickly applied oil paint. The painting has been framed in a hand-made, burnished silver floater frame.

ERIN HANSON is a life-long painter, beginning her study of oils as a young child.  Her passion for natural beauty is seen in her work as she transforms vistas familiar and rare into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms and raw emotional impact.
