Summer shadows curve over this dusky golden hillside of summer. The cool green undertones of the canvas make the painting glow with a subtle light, while the thickly applied, painterly brush strokes are evocative of a Van Gogh expressionist landscape painting.

Hanson's modern blend of impressionism, plein aire technique, and expressionism have been heralded as a new style: Open Impressionism. These stylized and abstract landscapes blend the painterly effects of distinct brush strokes with a clean-cut, mosaic tile effect of laying brush strokes side-by-side without layering. Hanson uses large piles of oil paint, without any additives or gels, and uses only a brush to build up the heavy texture seen in her paintings.

This painting was created on gallery-depth canvas, with the painting continued around the edges. This painting may be hung without being framed, as the sides are painted as a continuation of the piece.

Collection of The Allegretto Vineyard Resort, Paso Robles, CA. 2015.

ERIN HANSON is a life-long painter, beginning her study of oils as a young child.  Her passion for natural beauty is seen in her work as she transforms vistas familiar and rare into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms and raw emotional impact. Her frequent forays into National Parks and other havens of nature include backpacking expeditions, rock climbing, and photo safaris.  Hanson's unique painting style has become known as Open Impressionism, which is now taught in art schools around the world. With thousands of collectors eagerly anticipating her work and millions of followers online, Hanson has become an iconic, driving force in the rebirth of contemporary impressionism, and she is quickly recognized as a prolific, modern master.
