Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah is an incredible natural red rock amphitheater filled to the brim with aspens and cedars. In fact, this national monument is home to the largest single organism of aspen trees in the world! Quaking aspens are one of Hanson's favorite subjects to paint, and when she discovered Cedar Breaks she felt like she had come home. Her impressionist Cedar Breaks landscape paintings are filled with red, yellow, gold, and orange hues, a celebration of the colors of aspen.

Southern Utah is famous for its stunning aspen color, and my favorite place to view the fiery hues of autumn is Cedar Breaks National Monument, near Zion National Park. This painting captures a hiking trail through the aspen groves, sparkling coins of gold and orange everywhere around you. An early dawn hike through Cedar Breaks National Park led me to this secluded lake, surrounded by October aspens. The mirror-still lake created a double of the beautiful scenery around me. While I enjoyed some morning crackers and cheese, I enjoyed the quiet and stillness around me and contemplated how to re-capture this feeling on canvas.
