There are hundreds of articles about shopping for art online. These provide many fantastic websites from which you can buy art, such as Captured52, Tappan Collective, Paper Collective, Saatchi Art and ArtFinder. However, the best and most direct way to purchase art is from the artist himself.
Prior to the internet, there was no way to connect with artists directly - but now an artist can create a shop on various websites, a profile on Instagram, or even a website of their very own. In fact, so many artists have independent shops that it can be difficult to find the up-and-comers or your new favorite piece.
If you are looking for a specific type of art or would love to find your next favorite artist, we suggest a hybrid approach to looking for your next favorite piece. Here are two simple steps anyone can follow to find artwork that they love, which is also within their budget:
1. The first step involves the most time and legwork. We recommend you attend art fairs, art walks, art shows, and gallery openings or showings. You should also look online by searching art-related hashtags on Instagram like #LandscapesinOil, #OriginalPainting, #OriginalArt, #FineArt, #ArtistsofInstagram, and #ArtistSharing. Finally, you can take a look at online vendors like those listed at the top of this section.
2. Once you have found artists with whom you really connect, you can contact them directly to see if they sell their own art (most do) or to commission a painting or other work.
