Lake Tahoe straddles state lines between California and Nevada and is bordered by the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Surrounded by mighty pines, the clear turquoise blue of this lake is both a tourist destination and a natural wonder. Famously, Mark Twain called Lake Tahoe "the fairest picture the whole earth affords." Many painters have agreed with him, including Frances Gearhart, Pauline Gard Hiler, and Erin Hanson.
