Canyon de Chelly is one of my favorite National Monuments in Arizona. Every year I find a new way to explore the red rock canyon, becoming newly inspired every time. This painting was created after an early spring visit, the red canyon floor becoming dusted with a pale spring grass. The olives and cottonwoods follow the winding wash, casting long cool shadows across the canyon floor.
The brush strokes in this painting are loose and impressionistic, with a delicate stained glass quality. The oil painting is full of movement and excitement, bringing to life the transient light of early dawn.
This painting was created on gallery-depth canvas, with the edges painted all around as a continuation of the piece. You may hang it without framing as desired.
ERIN HANSON is a life-long painter, beginning her study of oils as a young child. Her passion for natural beauty is seen in her work as she transforms vistas familiar and rare into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms and raw emotional impact. Her frequent forays into National Parks and other recesses of nature include backpacking expeditions, rock climbing, and photo safaris. Hanson's unique painting style has become known as Open Impressionism, with hundreds of collectors eagerly anticipating her work. As an iconic, driving force in the rebirth of contemporary impressionism, Hanson is quickly recognized as a prolific, modern master.
