About the Painting

Kolob Canyon is a lesser known entrance to Zion National Park, but home of some of the most stunning red rock cliffs in Utah. I love the dark green foliage that grows here in the high elevations, with the occasional pop of color from a stray maple or cottonwood tree. This painting holds in place that transient moment of time when the canyon is lit up with a brilliant orange sunrise. The simple composition focuses attention on the beautiful range of colors that have to be seen in person to be believed.

This painting was created on gallery-depth canvas, with the painting continued around the edges. This painting does not require framing and arrives ready to hang.

Exhibited: St George Art Museum, Utah, in a solo exhibition celebrating the National Park's centennial: Erin Hanson's Painted Parks, 2016.

ERIN HANSON is a life-long painter, beginning her study of oils as a young child.  Her passion for natural beauty is seen in her work as she transforms vistas familiar and rare into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms, and raw emotional impact. Her frequent forays into National Parks and other havens of nature include backpacking expeditions, rock climbing, and photo safaris.  Hanson's unique painting style has become known as Open Impressionism, which is now taught in art schools around the world. With thousands of collectors eagerly anticipating her work and millions of followers online, Hanson has become an iconic, driving force in the rebirth of contemporary impressionism, and she is quickly recognized as a prolific, modern master.
